Every inverter here is pure sine wave. That is not a feature we are upselling you — it is the minimum for a CPAP, a laptop charger, a compressor fridge, or anything with a motor and a speed control. Modified sine wave is cheaper, and it is why some appliances buzz, run hot, or refuse to start at all.

Read the continuous rating, not the box

Two numbers appear on every inverter. Continuous is what it delivers all day. Surge is what it holds for a second or two while a motor spins up. Listings quote surge because it is the bigger number. Size on continuous, then check that surge covers your worst startup.

• 1000W — fridge, lights, laptops, a CPAP, a heated blanket. Not a microwave.
• 2000W — the workhorse. Adds a 1,000W microwave, which actually draws around 1,500W while cooking, plus most hand tools.
• 4000W — well pump, welder, air conditioning, a whole cabin. 24V bank only.

12V or 24V is already decided for you

Your battery bank decides it, not the product page. A 24V inverter will not run on a 12V bank and no adapter fixes that; it is one of the most common returns in this category. Above 2000W, 12V starts fighting you: 2000W at 12V pulls over 165 amps through the cable, and half that at 24V.

Where the numbers come from

Continuous power, surge power, input voltage and weight are on every product page, taken from the manufacturer specification sheet. Where a figure is not published, we say so instead of filling the gap. The complaint we read most in this category is an inverter that cannot carry the load printed on its own case. The second is a single-speed fan that comes on at low load and stays on, three feet from where you sleep, so we state fan behaviour per model.
